Arm in Arm was formed to face the issues of our times, of a rapidly deteriorating economy that is appearing to turn into a depression. We acknowledge that we are not our grandparents and great grandparents; we are not prepared for tough economic times. In order to prepare we see the need for developing a support network in neighborhoods and communities, so as to lessen our dependence on outside help and to have the ability to resolve our own issues.
We see that by joining "arm in arm" we can recapture the structure that was inexistence in our country in past troubling times, the time when neighbors knew each other well and shared skills and knowledge to accomplish anything that was needed. When food was grown locally and everyone had a garden if even just a window garden. When items and skills were traded or bartered. When self reliance was the norm and no one looked for others to save them or bail them out of trouble. A time when communities and churches were there to help those that could not help themselves. A time when people focused on what they could agree on and not what made them different, when they would pull together to strengthen the society as a whole. This was the American experience.
Our goal is to get people talking and face to face, building relationships and creating support networks, promoting a mindset of preparedness, planning for the possibility of a global economic collapse, having neighborhoods working closely with their local law enforcement agencies, ensuring a safe environment and reviving the principle of self government and the role of citizen's involvement with our representatives.
As an interdependent society we will need each other to get through this. This is an opportunity in our time to rediscover what made America a strong and a self governing society. It will take a willingness to ask questions as to how we got to this place and what can we do about it. This is not about who is to blame and who got it right or wrong. It is about considering where we are now and how can we build a strong network of support and solutions that would be very hard to bring down. What would it be like to stand "arm in arm" and create a chain of united Americans, brothers and sisters standing in support of the principles that once made us a great nation?
This is a grassroots, solution oriented, non-partisan, non-denominational all-inclusive organization. This is meant to be a duplicatable model that could be implemented anywhere in the United States or the world for that matter. We have provided the web-site for guidance, examples and inspiration but it will be up to its members to make this happen. The hope is that many people will be inspired to become leaders and role models in their neighborhoods and communities for others to follow. We will not be asking for your money, just your desire to make this a better world. There are no spokespeople for Arm in Arm just examples of great Americans taking responsibility for their families, their futures and fulfilling their civic duties that will determine the direction and perhaps the very survival of our country.
